PDP Says Twitter Account Was Hacked After Aisha Buhari, Garba Shehu and Central Bank Invalidate Claims of Illegal FOREX Trading

In a telephone interview with ThisDay, the People’s Democratic Party, PDP through it’s head of publicity, Chinwe Nnoron, has said that the official twitter account of the party was hacked as at the time when the handle was used to make allegations of illegal FOREX trading against the First lady, Amina Buhari, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, and Chief of Staff to the President Abba Kyari.

She also said she would need to verify whether indeed the tweets actually originated from the party.

This is coming after Garba Shehu also threatened lawsuit against the individual behind the tweets.

Meanwhile, the Central Bank of Nigeria has rebutted the claims by PDP, saying they only sell FOREX to banks, and not to individuals or companies.

Speaking to Vanguard, the apex bank’s spokesperson Isaac Okoroafor said:

It was very laughable to say that the CBN sold forex to anyone at N185/$1. The records are there for anyone who is interested to crosscheck. The CBN has not sold the dollar at N185 in recent times. The movement of the exchange rate was N155/$1; N168/ $1; and from there to the current rate of N197/$1.

Politicians should spare this institution from deliberate falsehood because if they destroy the reputation of the institution, the economy suffers. Politicians should please allow us to do our job in the interest of the economy

With every sense of responsibility, it is important to state that the Central Bank does not sell forex to individuals nor companies. You are aware that we sell forex to banks which in turn sell to their customers. For anyone to say that the CBN sells forex to individuals or some companies is, indeed, very ridiculous and mischievous

The press release says that the account was hacked, hence why those tweets were made. She didn’t say it was hacked after the threat of legal action from the persons against whom allegations were made. Let us read carefully before jumping to comment or conclude.

Nigerians have seen this the CBN denial that it sold $22 million to Aisha Buhari. Nigerians have read that President abi na General Buhari has spent $23 million dollars travelling since he was sworn into power 10 months ago. The president thinks it is acceptable to spend $2.3 million dollars MONTHLY travelling while Nigerians are suffering. Please CBN tell us which bank sold the President the 23 million he used to travel, and at what rate it was sold. Over to President Buhari did you use $1 million dollars in 10 months and give the balance to Aisha? Corrupt leaders, corrupt president, corrupt wife of president. Chains.

Oh please what credibility does CBN has??? Go take care of the scandal regarding illegal employment first. As for PDP, you lack the credibility to throw corruption allegation at others , cuz you got us in this economical mess in the first place.

I still maintain it is not the right sequence of events to make a “threat” to sue, if You are staff or family of the President when an allegation emanates from the opposition party’s website or Twitter page. That 24 hours is enough to intimidate and/induce everyone involved into changing claims; CBN will have plenty of time to cover the tracks and no one would be the wiser. They should go to court so that investigators can confirm the truth as to whether accounts were hacked or not. NO SMOKE WITHOUT FIRE! Plus THIS IS NIGERIA!!
