Sakenim Pedro-Egbe and Andrew Esiri got married in late 2015, and the bride’s beautiful Ekpeye culture was on display – it’s been a while since we featured a wedding from the ethnic group – their traditional attire is unique and beautiful.
The colourful Port Harcourt wedding had fun performances from the groom’s brother, Dr. SID of the Mavins, Reekado Banks, while Don Jazzy, Bizzle Osikoya, Asa Asika and more young music moguls were in attendance.
The groom is a geologist, while the bride is in finance, and it didn’t take them long to figure out their union was destined.
I followed Andrew after a friend of mine mentioned “of” him to me, I commented on a photo, we did lunch the next day and the day after that, and the rest is history. 🙂
It was a nice and quiet proposal, very unexpected being that it was only about a year from the first time we had lunch. I had the most stressful day at work, and still had to bring work home, but for some reason he was super keen on going to see a movie at the cinema.
I took my laptop along with me and was working in the car on the way to the cinema. From nowhere, we started seeing cars turn around, there was a robbery in the front, I was so scared, I asked him to turn back, he refused and found an alternate route, I was so lost … oh well, we went.
To cut a long story short, we saw the movie – Focus, I got into the car after the movie, reached for my seat belt, buckled it and turned to see my boyfriend on one knee outside the car – I cried like a baby (still not sure why), perfect end to a stressful day.
Pre-marriage counseling was fantastic! Initially I was skeptical and thought it will be so pretentious, but It was actually amazing. It was group versus one-on-one, so it was nice to hear people’s experiences and struggles and stories and the suggested solutions to them. Even if I didn’t pay close attention then, I find myself subconsciously practicing what was preached and it makes everything so much easier.
Advice for the wedding day, remember to relax! Not everything will go according to plan, so put that extra effort to relax and smile and laugh through it all, else your photos won’t be pretty – especially brides! 🙂
