Compassion with a Slice of Fashion – A Perfect Recipe for Pink Ball Perfection

Published

We’ve given you the full scoop on the fashion at the 2009 Genevieve Pink Ball. I bet you have been wondering what happened after the red carpet. Read on and you’ll find out.

The night was all about the cause – Breast Cancer. The Expo Hall of the Eko Hotel and Suites was swathed in PINK! Pink roses, pink lights, pink drapes and off course lots of Pink Ladies.  The show kicked off with a stirring rendition of the National Anthem by gospel crooner Sammie Okposo. This provided the perfect beginning to the festivities of the night. The Eboni Band entertained the crowd intermittently throughout the event with various local and international songs.  The true purpose of the event was not lost in the pageantry, Sola Adeoti, a cancer survivor gave an inspriring and insightful speech on her breast cancer journey. It was a great reminder that breast cancer is REAL but with early detection, dedicated treatment and a positive attitude, the battle can be won.  There were also speeches from Genevieve Magazine Founder/Editor-in-Chief – Betty Irabor, Dr. Doyin Abiola and Aisha Babangida-Shinkafi. Other highlights of the event included an auction of selected luxury goods with the full proceeds donated to the breast cancer charity initiatives and a lovely musical performance from Sonia Irabor. As the night was drawing to a close with the clock ticking past midnight, the show rounded off with 2 big BANGS. A performance from a ‘mystery guest’, guess who it was? Ex-Governor Donald Duke with his band. The crowd went absolutely wild as he hit the stage. Mr. Duke and his band performed various old school hits including Rock Me Gently and Get Down On It. Just as the crowd was recovering from that high, the fashion show started. The men got the ball rolling as accomplished men from various fields including Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, Fela Durotoye, Sunmi Smart-Cole, Eyimofe Atake and Bobby Eke strutted down the stage. The final crescendo was reached when the female ‘models’ hit the runway in specially made creations by Tiffany Amber. The theme of the fashion show was ‘My Fair Lady‘ and the designs did not disappoint! Funke Akindele provided a humorous start to the fashion show by catwalking down the ramp and insisting that she ‘gats to belong!’, she was followed by the other fair ladies including Sally Mbanefo, Ruth Osime, Alake Dare, Susan Eyo-Honesty, Vivian Chiologi and Alayingi Sylva. Glamorous, Entertaining and best of all for a GREAT cause. Kudos.
