Bunmi Koko Unveils “Matriarchy” at 2010 Africa Fashion Week

Bunmi Koko showcased their collection on Day 2 of Africa Fashion Week.  For this collection, Bunmi Olaye chooses to go regal expressed with an Edwardian tilt, structured cuts and the richness of red and gold.

She infuses lots of texture in this collection, created with  Tye and die, and geometric print fabrics, embroidery, leather, fringe details, sequins, fur, metallics and the exquisite drapery we see with the skirts.

The power trouser suit is brought back with a lot more pizzaz ; with plunging necklines, peplum jackets, bishop sleeves and a vibrant print! The skirts are kept playfully short and the leggings with interesting side fringe details.

She really pushed the envelope with this collection; and presents us with something new!  She works with more textures and fabrics than we are accustomed to and that’s essentially what you expect from designers; to continue expanding and exploring, but still maintain their unique aesthetic and point of view and that’s exactly what she does with this collection quite effectively.

The woman in the collection, is designed to be the absolute matriarch; a ruler and dominate of high fashion pieces either in her choice to dare in statement print or be bold and beautiful in red cocktail dress.
