International Women’s Society presents “Celebrating Fashion Today” – A Coffee Table Book Inspired by Nigerian Fashion for Charity

The Nigerian Fashion industry achieved a major milestone on the 9th of November 2010. A new coffee table book, “Celebrating Fashion Today” was launched by the International Women’s Society (IWS). The IWS was founded in 1957 and since inception the organization has made a significant societal impact through their non-profit work including the  establishment of the IWS Home for Abandoned Children and the IWS Skills Acquisition Centre for Young Men & Women.

“Celebrating Fashion Today” is a coffee table book which showcases Nigerian fashion with a focus on the contemporary Nigerian  clothing and accessories designers including Duro Olowu, Samantha Cole, Tiffany Amber, Ituen Basi, Deola Sagoe, Jewel by Lisa, Eva Sonaike and Chris Aire. Pioneer design houses – Shade Fahm (Shade Stores), Abba Folawiyo (Labanella), Betty Okuboyejo (Betty O), Supreme Fashions and Folorunsho Alakija (Rose of Sharon) are also profiled and celebrated in the book. All proceeds from the limited edition book will be donated to the IWS Home for Abandoned Children.

The launch event which took place at the Muson Centre in Lagos was monumental as it brought together different ‘generations’ of Nigerian fashion. According to IWS President, Ekua Abudu, “The book – Celebrating Fashion Today – challenges stereotypes by revealing the elegance, beauty, diverse philosophy and the commercial chic that now defines Nigeria‘s fashion.”
