It’s the one you have been waiting for!
2010 is wrapping up and it has been an absolutely thrilling year so far.
The entertainment and fashion industries in Africa have evolved significantly and we definitely feel that on the red carpets across the continent.
The MTV Africa Music Awards, popularly referred to as the MAMAs is the final major date on the 2010 African entertainment social calendar.
The 2010 edition of the MAMAs took place at the Eko Hotel & Suites in Victoria Island, Lagos on Saturday 11th December 2010.

So many of Africa’s major stars especially from the world of music were at the event. International stars including T Pain, Rick Ross and Eve added some international flavour to the event as well.

From a style perspective, we saw lots of what we have come to expect from MTV Awards shows all around the world. Lots of minis, sequins and sparkle!

Check out the most comprehensive red carpet review of the 2010 MAMAs that you will find online or in print!

We present BN Red Carpet Fab – The MAMAs 2010 Edition

**
We shall start with our best dressed! It was so difficult choosing our faves. We decided to go with looks that represented what the MAMAs are about! Fun, vivacious and youthful.

Best Dressed
Mo’Cheddah was a winner, not just on stage where she grabbed the award for newcomer of the year and performed with hiphop icons – Public Enemy but also on the red carpet.
This is how a starlet should look!
Mo rocked a fitted white and gold mini dress by April by Kunbi. The dress was layered with delicate gold lace which ran through the single arm and bare back. The fit of this dress was perfection. Mo’Cheddah swept her hair back in a single ponytail and accessorized with white & gold rings and earrings. Finally she completed her look with python platform pumps.

BN Faves
We picked Eve as one of our faves mainly for her onstage style. Her red carpet look was a black mini dress with a single bold shoulder. She accessorized with a long necklace and pewter peep-toe platforms pumps.
Her on-stage looks were definitely quite interesting. From an all leather biker chick ensemble to a multicoloured spiked ‘The Blondes’ corset paired with black leggings. Finally a skintight blinged out jumpsuit. Eve also wore a Jewel by Lisa jumpsuit with a plunging neckline and black embellishments for the after show sessions.
On any other day, these looks would have been OTT but its the MAMAs and LOUD is what its all about.

Nigerian designer Bridget Awosika made a strong impression on the 2010 MAMAs red carpet. We totally adore the mix of textures in her look. This runs all through her outfiit. From the snakeskin skirt to the panels on her top. We also love the loose waves of her hair and glam makeup. She completed her look with black pumps.

How many ladies can pull off this look? Very very few! Oreka Godis deserves major points for attempting this look and pulling it off.
Short, plunging neckline, leopard print spiced with red! This is a bold look and we love it!

We totally love seeing hot couples on the red carpet. Naeto C & Nicole Chukwueke looked fab at the MAMAs. Naeto went for a grey and red palette. The vintage red pin on his lapel was a dapper touch that pulled the outfit together. Nicole went for vintage glam in a shimmery floor length black dress paired with a gold belt. J’adore!

We ♥ the dudes from Jozi. They always bring a refreshing laid back vibe to the red carpet.

Rockstar Shades, White Jacket, V-Neck Black Tee, Blinged Out Belt, Black Denim and some kicks. We are feeling J Martins‘ look..not sure about the 007 pose though!

Now that 2Face has this Airtel endorsement, we hope he wont get stuck wearing red all the time! We kid, however, all through the MAMAs, red was 2Face’s colour of choice. He went for a simple look on stage with a crisp red shirt while on the red carpet, he loosened up a bit with a V-neck red tee shirt. As the big winner of the night, we hoped 2Face would have gone with something more dapper on the red carpet but he looked good though.
Congrats on the awards 2Face, we hope to see some dapper looks from you next year.

Congrats to Sasha! She picked up the coveted Female Artiste of the Year award and got to perform with Eve. Sasha was well dressed for her golden night in shimmery gold mini dress. The short sleeved dress had peaked shoulders, a single flower detail by the waistline and a tulip hemline. She accessorized with gold accessories and bangin’ purple heels.

Now is Genevieve Nnaji‘s time to shine! The actress has had a phenomenal year so far. Gene’s style has also evolved as the months have rolled by. For the MAMAs, Genevieve chose a modified look from the Jewel by Lisa Global Minimalism collection. The black dress has a striking full textured skirt with peeks of tulle at the hemline. The top half of her look is also very interesting – Embellished ankara layered with black fabric. Her short ‘do’ and black pumps complete her do.
Great look and we all know that black is Gene’s fave colour. However, we are looking forward to seeing her in COLOUR next year.

Genevieve & her rumoured boyfriend, D’Banj presented an award together at the MAMAs. They were most definitely a cute couple on stage. D’Banj complemented Gene’s look in his all black ensemble. The sequined detail of his shirt added that superstar oomph to his ensemble. What we totally love is the way he is gazing at her adoringly!

Congolese musician Barbara Kanam looked gorgeous at the MAMAs. Her floor-length blue dress brought lots of glam to the red carpet.

Tiwa Savage is a star and she dresses like a star! For the MAMAs, Tiwa rocked a dress by Toju Foyeh (the same young designer that made her SMVA 2010 dress). The thigh-high slit and draped front detail make this dress special. Poker straight long locks and pewter pumps complete her look.

Julius & Ibiere Agwu always have fun on the red carpet. We have so much respect for him as he confidently lets his tall wife rock her heels. Yummy Mummy Ibiere wore a pink mini dress with chain shoulder detailing and paired it with black booties. Julius rocked jeans, a pop art tee, boots and a salmon jacket.

The deafening screams each time Fally Ipupa hit the stage at the MAMAs illustrates that he is definitely one of the sexiest men in African entertainment. Fally rocked a mix of looks from formal to casual at the MAMAs.

Studio 53 Extra’s Dolapo Oni rocked a look from Re Bahia’s collection using Vlisco’s Gallery of Poems real dutch wax which debuted at the FAB Night Out event. This is a ‘clean’ look that totally pops. The front zip detail of the dress and Dolapo’s slicked back hair give this look a sophisticated feel.

A few months ago, we spotted Nneka rocking Deola Sagoe in an edition of German Vogue. DS and Nneka reignited the magic at the MAMAs. Great to see Nneka in a sexy look.

Yay! We love the style evolution that radio personality Gbemi Olateru-Olagbegi has been run through over the years. At the MAMAs, she rocked this sexy gold sequined mini paired with purple accessories.

MTV Africa girls Cynthia Mbanefo and Vanessa Mdee represented Nigeria and Tanzania at the MAMAs. Cynthia rocked a Jewel by Lisa dress from their Spring/Summer 2011 collection while Vee wore an embellished ‘kanga’ dress.
