NFL Star/Philanthropist Amobi Okoye reveals his inspiration and plans in the new Special Edition Issue of Golden Icons Magazine

A limited special edition issue of Golden Icons Magazine featuring NFL Star, Amobi Okoye, powered by Invictus91 has been published. This exclusive issue will only be available via The Amobi Okoye Foundation special events across the United States, and during their annual trip event to Africa.

Okoye is a philanthropist who has visited several kids in the hospital, provided gifts, mentored children, handed out several scholarships, fed the hungry, provided medical care, and instilled the importance of education to ensure a better life for the next generation. These are just a few things this young man has done since beginning his foundation.

As he does every off-season, Okoye will be visiting his native country Nigeria in a few weeks, to increase interest in American football on the continent of Africa and give back to the community in which he was born. Okoye’s charity organization, the Amobi Okoye Foundation, Inc., organizes the Changing Africa Through Education (CATE) mission trip to Africa each year. The annual accompaniment includes Okoye’s family, local college students and several NFL players. “Each year the trip gains more and more momentum,” Okoye said. “As the CATE mission grows, so does international interest in the continent of Africa.”

This year’s CATE participants include Frank Okam, Connor Barwin and Okoye of the Houston Texans, and James Ihedigbo of the New York Jets. The players will visit Nigeria’s largest city, Lagos, as well as Delta and Anambra states on their 13 day journey.

Okoye and company will spend their time teaching kids the game of American football, volunteering at the Okoye Foundation’s cancer clinic, distributing the 100,000 textbooks

collected from the Houston Independent School District, and delivering medical supplies to local hospitals.

The Okoye Foundation will also award 20 full college scholarships to Nigeria’s brightest student-athletes. The Okoye Foundation amplifies CATE’s success year in and year out by leveraging partnerships with successful and well known organizations such as Nike— which will provide sporting equipment for the Kickoff 4 Kids Camp and the African Cancer Care Incorporated (ACCI), which will dispatch over a dozen doctors to provide free cancer screening, education and care for treatable diseases at the foundation’s clinic.

“Last year a Houston non-profit called Medical Bridges donated a 40-foot container full of medical supplies. This year with the help of ACCI, James (Ihedigbo), and some other generous sponsors we are going to do the same thing.” Okoye said.

The Okoye Foundation is currently working with local officials in Nigeria to build a sports academy that will provide its students with a quality education and the opportunity to learn the game of American football.
