Nigerian comedian Bright “Basketmouth” Okpocha has climbed to the top of the comedy game by consistently delivering his jokes and wisecracks all over the world. From Lagos to London over to Moscow and back to Nairobi.

Besides his onstage antics, the entrepreneurial side of Basketmouth via his company Barons World Entertainment has played a huge role in propelling him to his current status. The “Laffs n Jamz” show platform launched at the University of Benin (UNIBEN) on the 2nd of June 2000. The show featured comedy legend Ali Baba, Paul Play, Teju Babyface and a host of other artistes. The event signified the beginning of Nigeria’s first comedy and music concert.

Three years later, it was restructured and became a monthly comedy show which was hosted at Fantasyland in Ikoyi Lagos. The monthly Laffs n Jamz events served as a creative platform for many of Nigeria’s top music and comedic superstars. Some of them were considered “up-and-comers” at that time. The list includes Asa, D’banj, P-Square, 2Face, Mode9, Sammy Okposo, Sound Sultan and many others graced the Laffs n Jamz stage. Comedians such as Gordons, Ali Baba, Okey Bakassi, Julius Agwu, Tee A, Basorge, Omo Baba, Klint da Drunk were also regulars at the show.

For three years, Laffs n Jamz which was hosted by Basketmouth provided entertainment for Nigerians every last Saturday of the month. Unfortunately, it all came to an abrupt stop due to lack of funds and sponsorship. However, as the years have rolled by, despite the success of other Basketmouth/Barons World Entertainment ventures including Lord of the Ribs and Basketmouth Uncensored, fans of the format have constantly requested for the return of Laffs n Jamz.

Now, Laffs n Jamz has been restructured, it’s now bigger and better and will now feature Nigerian comedians and musicians alongside foreign comedians and musicians who will make special appearances once a quarter. The venue has shifted to the beautiful lagoon-front venue – Ember Creek in Ikoyi. The first edition will take place on the Sunday 25th of June 2011 and will feature comedians from Nigeria and the UK. Comedians I Go Dye, Gandoki, Buchi, Bash, Senator, Osama, Klint da Drunk and Lateef Love Joy from the UK will rock alongside musicians Naeto C, M.I, Bez and many more. According to a statement from the organizers, “Barons World Entertainment promises a grand event – entertaining, high energy and relaxing.
