Friends of the Brown Heart (FBH) Support Pwashikai Nideno

The village of Dong, Adamawa State was in shock as the story of 5 year old Pwashikai Nideno unraveled. On the 6th of May 2011, Pwashikai Nideno was kidnapped from her home by suspected ritualists who mutilated her vagina and rectum and left her for dead in a bush. By what can only be described as sheer determination, Pwashikai crawled on her own to a foot path where she was discovered by a woman going to fetch firewood in the early hours of May 7.

Soaked in her own blood and her intestine dangling outside her body, Pwashikai was rushed to the hospital. Following examinations at the Yola Specialist Hospital’s children surgical ward, where she’s currently hospitalized, it was discovered that not only had Pwashikai’s vagina and rectum had been mutilated, the thin layer separating the two had also been mutilated, thus making it impossible to pass faeces through her rectum. Although her abductors have since been caught, the road to recovery for Pwashikai is still incredibly long.

An estimated figure of £20,000 pounds sterling is urgently required for a vaginoplasty operation abroad, a procedure to reconstruct her private part and rectum. Although doctors are also engaged in talks with aSudanbased hospital which undertakes such surgeries at a lesser cost. The Brown Heart Foundation, a non-profit organisation, says it has concluded arrangements with a reputable bank to open an account on behalf of Pwashikai to cater for her upkeep after the surgery, especially in the area of her schooling. Chaste Inegbedion, the president of the foundation, said a website created for the girl at www.savepwashikai.brownheartfdn.org would provide online notifications about her development and statement of contributions from Nigerians.

Notifications of contributions text/call the hotline 234818488773, Hindi Livinus (Next Newspaper, Media) on 08038249458 or ask the Specialist’s Surgeon Chuks Azubuike on 07034859567.

Fundraiser for Plane Crash Survivor Kechi Okwuchi

Kechi before the plane crash | Kechi before Laser Surgery on her Hand | Kechi after laser surgery on her hand

I doubt any Nigerian has forgotten the 2005 Sosoliso plane crash which claimed the lives of 109 people, 60 of whom were students from Loyola Jesuit College, Abuja. Kechi Okwuchi, one of the Loyola students, miraculously survived the plane crash and has been receiving extensive medical treatments ever since. With over 60% intensive burns, up to five weeks in a medically-induced coma and over 75 surgeries to date, Kechi remains a fighter. Her determination and hope to achieve her dreams regardless, is indeed an inspiration to all.

Yimi Omofuma and Somachi Chris-Asoluka, two of Kechi’s closest friends, and former classmates, have teamed up with Kechi’s family and Loyola Jesuit College, to hold a Fundraising Dinner that will cover the cost of Kechi’s future surgeries. The fundraiser will hold on the 30th of July 2011, at the Landmark Events Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos. It will feature a fashion show titled “Sunset and Sun Dawn” showcasing unique designs from Mudi, Kechi’s and a host of upcoming talent. In addition, there will be special music performances from Bez, Muna, Waje, Lynxxx, Freewindz, and other surprise performances.
