The Most Coveted Décor Themes for 2012! An Exclusive Viewing of the Theme Designs by Newton & David

Luxury floral decorators – Newton & David have made major strides in the Nigerian event décor sector. For over a decade, discerning clients have chosen Newton & David to transform their events. On BN, we have featured weddings and events decorated by the company. This includes the 2010 wedding of Bella Adenuga & Jameel Disu as well as the recent traditional engagement of Funke Fowler & Abi Kuku.

One of the major focus points at the recent “Spectacular Event Expo” was the unveling of Newton & David’s new collection of décor options for 2012.

When asked for the inspiration behind this year’s Expo compared to last year’s, the company said “The 2012 collection all about creativity and versatility as well as making a clear artistic statement. An expression of Newton & David‘s event design point of view and while there was a clear freedom in the expression of the themes that were exhibited, there was also a show of restraint. There was a clear departure from last year’s offering of more than three times as many themes and we successfully interpreted each theme flexibly so that they could each translate as whatever the nature of the event – personal celebrations, corporate events and weddings. Making each theme universally relevant was an important approach for us this time around”

BN has got all the details and photos of the new collection.

Arabic Theme Set Design
Just after the display room was the exhibition room which, when guests walked into, transported them to an Arabian Night. Every detail was typical of what you would experience at a Moroccan soiree complete with floor cushions, throw pillows in luxurious fabrics and colours, tinted mini lanterns suspending from the ceiling and all this set against the back drop screen of a lotus shaped dome adorned with crystals. In keeping with Newton & David’s notion that every detail counts, a Jasmine (from Aladdin) outfitted hostess welcomed guests to her palace and kept an eye out for the few who tried to take a puff out of the Hookah pipes that were part of her magical lair.

African Theme Set Design
Behind the Arabian set, was the ‘Contemporary African’ theme – a mix of African cultural elements complete with wood carved 6FT ostrich, pygmy men stools, wood carved trumpets and authentic old age keepsakes and a treasure chest. Set against a rainforest backdrop, the table was decorated with a truly unique centerpiece – a tree trunk as a vase- that held mostly tropical flowers. This theme was an instant hit with corporate clients as well as individuals looking to add that cultural element to their décor in a more modern style with fun elements like bottle gourds hanging from the ceiling. An older gentleman that seemed taken with this theme said “he felt it was a contemporary take on Fela’s Shrine”. I am guessing it also had something to do with the ‘Fela Girl’, a hostess with face paint, cowries and all, happily on hand to point out the details of her heritage filled set.

Alice in Wonderland Theme Set Design
Now, there is no doubt that the theme selection was carefully orchestrated to cover, not just different event and styles, but also the different corners of the world. Case in point, the Wonderland.
This set was inspired by Alice in Wonderland and it was indeed a wonderland fantasy. The bright colours were so artistically combined, it did not venture into a distasteful Mad Hatter’s tea party. There were exaggerated shapes and designs, the garden print table linen was complete with moss and little creatures, the touch of glitter on the giant roses on the chair bows and giant butterflies and cute bugs that gave the back drop a 3 dimensional effect. All these made guests want to jump down the rabbit hole for an adventurous party. And in case anyone was curious about what this party may hold, an Alice-clad hostess was available. It was truly enchanting.

Lady Gaga Theme Set Design
The last set was the perfect finish, it was dramatic! Inspired by the boldness and no holds barred qualities of a certain Lady Gaga, this was truly the ultimate extravagance. The red silk leaf print table linen did not just drape the table, it was a train for the rose covered mannequin that sat boldly at the center of the table. The gold and silver reflective spheres that hung down from the ceiling over the table gave the set its rock star appeal as did the candelabras covered in big budded red roses, it was awesome.
