Yet Another Bomb Explosion Rocks Kano

Few hours after my earlier jubilation over the relocation offer granted to National Youth Service Corps members in Kaduna and Kano states, news about another bomb explosion in Kano went viral over the internet.

According to the reports, Kano state was hit by another bomb explosion around 7.30pm yesterday. Though the number of casualties has not been ascertained, the reports say that the explosion went off in Sabon Gari, a predominantly Christian/Igbo area of the state.

Information coming into 247ureports.com indicates that a bomb explosion has rocked Kano State.

The bomb explosion occurred in Sabon Gari – an Igbo dominated area of Kano State. The bomb explosion happened at 7:30pm at a popular bar/drink outdoors joint -at 38 New Road opposite St Stephen’s Anglican Church.

The explosion was said to have injured three persons and six vehicles. The details are still unfolding. The police and the joint task force have arrived on the scene and have taken control of the crime scene.

Eyewitness reports indicate that the bomb was planted inside a sport utility vehicle parked near the bar.

A bomb explosion at a predominantly Christian quarters of Sabon Gari area of Kano municipality Sunday evening triggered pandemonium among residents and unsettled nightlife.

An eyewitness said the incident occurred at New Road axis of the city at about 7.15pm which caused minimal damage to a CRV Honda car parked at the scene

The eyewitness told Vanguard that another explosion was heard shortly after two men alighted from a commercial motorbike, walked through the spot and within three minutes a low calibre IED exploded.

According to the account unidentified persons planted the IED materials in used soft drink can and threw it in between two cars in the area.

The attack at the heart of Sabon Gari crippled nightlife as echo of January 20th multiple explosion in the city reverberated forcing shop owner to hurriedly close.

The police Public Relation Officer, ASP Musa Magaji Majia confirmed the incident adding that “it was a low calibre Improvised Explosive Devise.

ASP Majia stated that a team of anti-bomb disposal unit backed by heavily armed personnel were drafted to the area stressing that there was no injury or death.

He revealed that the police has increased its patrol in the city and advised citizens to go about their legitimate businesses without fear of molestation.

Kano state has experienced some of the worst attacks from the Islamic sect, Boko Haram, in recent times. Although no group has claimed responsibility for this attack, fingers are pointing in the direction of Boko Haram. On Friday 20th January 2012, more than 100 people were killed in bomb explosions and gun battles in the state. The attacked also claimed the life of a Channels TV reporter, Akogwu Enenche, who was killed in an unprovoked shooting by unidentified gunmen while carrying out his duties.

This attack further heightens the state of insecurity in the state and  calls for an immediate intervention into the security matters.
