Watch President Goodluck Jonathan’s Interview with ABN Digital as he Speaks on Boko Haram, Fuel Subsidy Scam, Nigeria’s Economy & More
Nigeria has entered a most optimistic era since independence. But this comes amid growing security concerns as Boko Haram continues to terrorize inhabitants of the country. Also, the $6.8 billion fuel subsidy fraud scandal is heaping pressure on Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan to prosecute top officials or face protests.
In this exclusive interview, ABN’s Frederic VandeVyver caught up with President Jonathan and asked him questions about Nigeria’s Economy, Boko Haram, Fuel Subsidy Scam and other issues.
In the video below, he speaks about the fuel subsidy scam, Boko Haram, and the measures the government is using to tackle the problems.
On the issue of Boko Haram, when asked the direct question ‘How are you tackling this?’, the President’s responded thus: “Unfortunately, we have to share in this global terror attacks. Initially, we never expected it.”
He went on to say “Our security architecture is not well designed for terror attacks and suicide bombing but having been confronted with this, we have now acquired and we are still acquiring…”
In this second video, President Jonathan speaks about Nigeria’s place in Africa. When asked about the impact of Nigeria’s economic growth rate, how fast it is growing and would overtake the South African economy in the next few years, he was quick to say that he was not quite interested in statistics but how it affects the life of the average Nigerian.
“We want a Nigeria that when you wake up, you should not begin to think about what you would eat; you should not begin to think about the school your children should go; you should not begin to think about power; you should not begin to think about water.”
