Regina George, 1 of the 3 Nigerian Female Athletes Barred from the Olympics Gets Cleared of Drug Use

Regina George, a female Nigerian athlete competing in the 400m and 4x400m races has been cleared of drug use.

She was banned two weeks ago along with two other Nigerian athletes, Vivian Chukwuemeka and Lauretta Ozoh, after their blood samples tested positive to banned drugs.

According to Punch, she was cleared after the mandatory second test was carried out on the three of them and has now returned to the Games Village with Team Nigeria.

The other two athletes, Loretta and Vivian failed the second test and were asked to go home.

The Team Nigeria doctor in charge of doping matters Dr Kenneth Anugweje told Punch that she was cleared following hearings carried out by the World Anti Dope Agency.

The three athletes had initially been found wanting following the drug tests at the national trials in Calabar in June. But only Regina and Loretta were involved in the second test.

Sadly, Vivian faces a life ban as it is her second drug scandal having returned from a dope-related ban not too long ago.

The implication of the exit of the two other athletes is that Nigeria will lose the top spot from the African meet to Kenya as the 4x100m gold medal will be withdrawn from the log and handed to the East Africans.
