She didn’t want her husband to leave the country without her, so she called the Police and told them he planned to blow up a plane. This was how Eunice Ukaegbu, a 50 year-old Nigerian woman residing in New Jersey, USA sent a swarm of Policemen rushing to the Newark Airport in an attempt to prevent a bomb from going off on a Paris-bound Delta Airlines flight.

The New York Post reports that she and her husband Okieze Ukaegbu, 58, had just had a big fight and she didn’t want him to leave the country without her. But authorities now believe that the information, was a false accusation following nothing more than a domestic dispute.

According to Eunice, she thought she was just doing her civic duty by calling the Police. She said he was a little secretive and when she couldn’t open his suitcase, she felt she had to warn authorities.

He told me he was going to blow up the airplane,” she told New York Post. “I went through his suitcase — and I panicked. I did what an honest citizen would do.”

The police first arrived at the couple’s home to question Eunice, who is a nurse. Federal agents, who feared her husband may be a terrorist, also came along. When their daughter overheard the ordeal, she called her father’s cellphone to alert him that Police men were heading to the airport to arrest him.

Okieze who was traveling to Nigeria via Paris had already passed through security and was waiting for a Delta flight to Paris, the first leg of his trip. After his daughter’s call, he remained at Gate B45 until authorities arrived, then calmly told them that his wife was lying and had an “alcohol problem.”

They took him into custody, pulled his luggage off the aircraft, searched it with bomb-sniffing dogs, then took him away for questioning, causing him to miss his flight. After interrogation and searches, he was released and later boarded a different flight to Paris.

The authorities have however described Eunice as the fiery one and now plan to press charges against her.

It looks like that marriage went up in flames,” a police source told New York Post.
