Nigerian International Footballer Osaze Odemwingie in Transfer Fiasco as Current Club West Brom prevents him from Leaving to QPR | Becomes a Laughing Stock on Twitter

Nigerian international footballer, Osaze Odemwingie who coincidentally is not playing for Nigeria at the ongoing 2013 African Cup of Nations in South Africa is not having the best of times as his attempt to transfer from West Brom to Queens Park Rangers has been met with stiff opposition.

For a while now, the 31 year-old player has been trying to engineer a move out of his club, West Brom, after growing increasingly frustrated by the club’s stand not to sell him. He took to Twitter last week to voice out his anger after his transfer request was turned down.

And in a new twist, Odemwingie drove himself to QPR in West London despite no agreement being in place between the two clubs and was refused entry into the Hoops’ stadium by club officials.

According to the BBC, he was quoted as saying that he had reached an informal agreement with Albion’s technical director Dan Ashworth on his departure, only to find that the situation had changed when he was en route to London.

“I am disappointed this is all happening. I met with Dan Ashworth this morning and we shook hands that I could leave with his blessing if the £3.5m fee was met,” the striker was quoted as saying by the Daily Mirror.

“Now, as I am on my way, I find that there are more complications. It is frustrating to say the least. But I am hopeful a solution can be found.”

Earlier in the week, West Brom had described Odemwingie’s transfer request club as “disappointing” adding that his action was “wholly unprofessional”. According to Daily Times, West Brom admitted that talks about a possible move had continued on deadline day, but had “proven fruitless and no agreement has been reached”.

Baggies chairman Jeremy Peace told the club’s official website:

“The only way we would have considered letting Peter leave was if an acceptable offer was forthcoming and if we had found a suitable replacement at relatively short notice. Neither materialised and, in the end, the matter became a point of principle as much as anything. Peter has acted wholly unprofessionally. He must now accept the fact he remains under contract for a further 18 months and has to focus on his Albion commitments.”

Last week, Odemwingie had said he was “deeply hurt” and “offended” by what he regarded as a lack of “common respect” from the West Brom management.

He might now have to stay with West Brom despite his intention to switch clubs.

Odemwingie and his wife, Sarah recently had their first child, a boy, Noah.
