BellaNaija reader Monica Funmilayo Awe-Etuk is a Canadian-Nigerian living in Atlanta, Georgia. She is a wife and mother of 2, has a double major in both Mass Communication and Sociology and studied the business of fashion. Coupled with her experience in working in the high end fashion industry for 15 years she has a blog called Awed by Monica that celebrates her love for fashion and style.
She likes to keep her style true to her personality and believes that fashion is like art and should be treated as such. Find out how she mixes up her style and what she thinks every girl should have in their wardrobe.
My Style Is
…a mix of everything stylish. I treat fashion like art and leave my style to my own interpretation.
Where Style meets Personality
Like my style, my personality for the most part is fun and very much alive. I do have a serious side, however I am trying to be more adventurous.
Where I Shop till I Drop
There is no one store that carries all the designers I love. There are so many designers that I am passionate about, it is impossible to pinpoint one brand that sums up my style.
Like any Nigerian girl, I love a great deal. Being that I understand how the industry works, I’d rather shop during sales. However if I find an item I absolutely love, there is no such thing as waiting for a sale (unfortunately I find too many things I absolutely love).
My Tresses
My favorite hair look would be to wear my hair super long, even as long as my backside, however I am rocking shoulder length hair right now and I love it.
My Makeup Look
How I Accessorize
I love accessories and I think they truly complete any outfit. I have tones of statement pieces, sunglasses in every major silhouette, silk scarfs, wool scarfs and tons of belts.

My Advice for Other Stylistas
I encourage my clients to find pieces that work for their personality and look awesome on their body type. I also advice people not to buy items because you see your favorite celebrities wearing it. Instead be conscious of your body shape and style and make sure you ‘own’ every outfit you put on.
The Short Life
On a Regular day
A regular day look for me would be a silk shirt, boyfriend jeans, and a blazer with a Chanel pin.
Getting my ‘Working Class Girl’ On
For work I love a great fitted suit. Prints are totally in, so I would mix patterns and still keep it professional.
I Own the Night
I am totally in-love with Clover Canyon right now. I would definitely rock one of their scuba dresses at night.
I Think Every Girl Should Have
Every stylish person should have an amazing pair of jeans, a great black dress, a pair of neutral pumps, a blazer and a killer tote.

If I Could Steal a Celebrity’s Wardrobe
There are a few people’s wardrobes I would love to own. Kim Kardashian and Bridget Awosika, for example are two that stand out. They both have amazing style.
Which Celebrity Stole my Look
I would compare my style to Tiwa Savage’s. I think she plays with trends but always has a way of making it her own and I love that. It’s totally me.
