Atoke’s Monday Morning Banter: Let’s Make Our Own Lists!

There’s something to be said for addictions. Those pesky little things just creep in and take a hold of you without giving you even the slightest clue or notice. That’s the only way I can explain what’s happening between me and this game called “Candy Crush”. It’s a great way of unwinding and generally de-stressing – or so I was told by MisTy. the only problem is that she didn’t mention that it’s madly addictive and you just keep playing and striving to get to the next level! Urgh!

Well, now you know what I did this weekend. I stayed indoors, watching reruns of Frasier in between Candy Crush breaks. I did try to finish my “Die Trying” by Lee Child but the distractions from Instagram and Twitter were just too much. Anyway, there’s an extra spring in my step this morning. I’ve got a LONG to-do list for the week but there’s no stopping me; there’s a certain zest bubbling inside of me. We must conquer. No choice in the matter. There’s an extra spring in my step too because I only just downloaded Omawumi’s song “Somori”. Ladies and gentlemen, that song has been giving me life.  The beat just goes hard and it is sure to get you dancing. I’ve had it on replay since I got it and I’m not sure it’ll stop any time soon. I’m a shameless Omawumi fan so you shouldn’t take my word for it… You can download the song here {Download}.

Speaking of music, the guys at NotJustOk.com released their list of ten most gifted rappers in Nigeria. There was an outrage in the comments section which overflowed to Twitter. Heck, it even got airtime on Rubbin’ Minds with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu. People were livid; they insisted that certain people who were on the list had no business being there. Others argued that their favorite lyricist was rightly and justifiably there. It went on and on – making for entertaining reading for me actually. Something to do while waiting for my Candy Crush lives to be refueled. There will ALWAYS be disagreement when these lists are made. Why? Because people are different. The only thing that distinguishes the Forbes list from mine is the reputation that the organization has garnered over the years.

Dearly beloved, why do we get our knickers in a twist over these things? Can’t we all just live in peace and unity? Maybe sing Kumbaya harmoniously while we’re at it? These lists are just that… lists. They’re computations based on criteria set out by the issuing bodies. They may not be criteria you agree with, but the person making the list certainly believes in the veracity of the compilation. We can’t always agree at all times on these things so maybe we should all just learn to relax when these matters come up really!

I think we should all be given the space to make our own lists. Perhaps this will help ease the tension we sometimes feel when we see some of these lists and they rile us up so? Okay, so let’s do this. Please share with us your top 5 artistes, actors, role models, & race car drivers! 😀

I’ll start. Omawumi. Omawumi. Omawumi. Omawumi & Omawumi. Yeah, she’s super fabulous and talented and you should download Somori if you need a kick for the week!
Have a fabulous day ahead. Live. Love. Smile. Remain positive!

Love, peace & cupcakes!
Toodles!
