BN Weddings: Fola Abiola & Srdjan Banjac Wed | A Conceal Affair

Happy Saturday! BN Weddings has a fabulous fusion wedding to treat you to today – a beautiful blend of Yoruba, Delta – specifically Ika Delta, Agbor & American cultures.

The bride is Fola Abiola, a senior forensic accountant and daughter of MKO Abiola, the Late great Nigerian businessman, politician & activist, while her groom Srdjan Banjac works for the United States government.

The fairytale romance started at a summer program at Yale University called J.S.A, and the rest as they say, is history.

Hear from Fola, the bride on the Magical Proposal – there were fireworks!

After a beautiful dinner cruise, Srdjan decided that we should take an evening stroll around Mount Vernon. Now, anyone that knows me can recognize the issue with this suggestion..MY HAIR! I asked him if he had lost his mind. He turned to me and said that were going on a walk and I should go with the flow. I decided to follow his plan because this was his birthday celebration. I will say that it was so hot! Anyway, we parked and started on our country stroll. While we were walking, he gave me a hug and whispered in my ear that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me. Then he said the magic words “will you marry me?” I was so overcome with emotion, happiness and surprise that I screamed “YES”. All of a sudden fireworks started right behind us. I really thought he had planned it but it seems the heavens were even happy for us that they orchestrated fireworks to celebrate.

The traditional Yoruba engagement went according to customs – the groom Srdjan dobale (prostrated) to the bride’s family, Fola placed his fila on his head and she chose the Bible as the most important gift for her new home. It was fun, festive and everyone – both from the bride and groom’s side, played a part in the marvelous celebration. The bride and groom later changed into traditional Edo attire – she wore a velvet wrapper and okuku, while he carried a beaded cane.

The wedding was elegance personified – planned by Shade Fatusin of A Conceal Affair, the brain behind many of Nigerians’ top weddings in the U.S. The blush, peach and coral tones were infused in the decor, bouquet and bridesmaids dresses. The bride and groom’s family shared in all their special moments, even as the bride was walking down the aisle to meet her groom, her sister, Moji Abiola sang a beautiful rendition of Maxwell’s ‘Whenever, wherever, whatever’.
