With the advent of technology and more Nigerians becoming more ‘internet savvy’, the idea of doing grocery shopping online is simply brilliant.

When retired doctor, Olumide Olusanya came up with this concept in Nigeria, it was to ‘save Nigerian women from useless husbands’. He started it off as BuyCommonThings.com but the brand has since morphed into Gloo.ng with a staff strength of 9 people.

Speaking to CNN on African Start Up,, on what motivated him to start he says, “I saw the stress; I saw the love and passion of trying to keep up a very happy home, a very happy family; traveling up and down and then (being) busy on a daily basis. And then you have a husband that is totally useless at cooking or taking care of the house, so all this pressure you see coming on. This for me was a way of trying to relieve her of that stress — my own expression of love.”

He went further to state that the brand has not started making a profit but he is optimistic that the brand would grow as more Nigerians buy into the idea of shopping online.
