Renowned fashion designer Oscar de la Renta has passed away at age 82.

The cause of his death is unknown at this time, CNN reports. However, he was diagnosed with cancer in 2006. But last year, he reportedly told family and friends that he was “totally clean.”

De la Renta, who was commonly referred to as the “sultan of suave,” designed high-end fashion outfits for the likes of Oprah Winfrey, Anne Hathaway, and many more. He is also said to have dressed every US first lady since Jacqueline Kennedy.

One of his most recent work before he died was designing George Clooney’s wife Amal Alamuddin‘s wedding dress.

“The only realities in life are that you are born, and that you die. We always think we are going to live forever. The dying aspect we will never accept. The one thing about having this kind of warning is how you appreciate every single day of life.” De la Renta once said.
