Nigeria’s Super Falcons team Wins Globacom CAF Best Women National Team Award

Super FalconsNigeria on Thursday won the best women national team award at the 2014 Globacom CAF awards in Lagos, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

The Nigeria’s senior national women’s team, the Super Falcons, defeated its Cameroonian counterpart who was nominated alongside the country for the category for women best national team.

For the category of best national teams’ men, Algeria arose victorious to defeat Libya and Nigeria who were nominees in that category.

The Super Falcons’ star, Asisat Osuola received awards for the youth player of the year and African women player of the year.

Talented player, Yaya Toure of Côte d’Ivoire won the 9th edition of the CAF wards as the African footballer of the year.

He also won the same laurel at the 2013 edition.

However Super Eagles Goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama was disappointed as he failed to receive an award.

Some spectators, who spoke to NAN, described the organisation of the event as impeccable in spite of the late kick off of the program.

A contractor, Olulanu Sowemimo, said that although it was his first time at the event, he was not disappointed.

“It’s interesting the lighting and all, I always see this on television, it’s good to see that we can put such a nice show together.

“Although they started late but it was worth the wait, the music and artists performance is a beauty to behold, It’s my first time here and I’m not disappointed, ” Sowemimo said.

Popular Comedian AY said he was not surprised at the way GLO’s CAF awards had panned out.

“Well I’m not surprised Glo has been wowing us with their penchant for excellence, this I believe is as a result of planning.

“They have once again shown that indeed African football is worth celebrating,” Makun said.

Raymond Akparhuere, a journalist with Metro FM, said that the food, music and organisation were a well put together show.

“It’s commendable I think we are beginning to get it right although there were few hitches initially but, it came out to be a success at the end of the day,” Akparhuere said.
