Despite widespread protests against Burundi President Pierre Nkurunziza‘s bid to be re-elected for a third term, he is adamant to continue his rule.
As a result, a coup attempt has been launched in Burundi to try to overthrow Nkurunziza, BBC reports.
However, the outcome of the coup is still unclear.
The presidency claims that the coup has been foiled, and that perpetrators will be brought to justice.
Nkurunziza was at a summit in Tanzania during the coup, but has since left the summit and is trying to get back into Burundi.
