Pres. Buhari: Boko Haram Agreed to Swap Chibok Girls with Arrested Bomb Expert

President Buhari meets President Francoise Hollande At Elysee 3

President Muhammadu Buhari has said that one of the conditions given by Boko Haram for the release of the abducted Chibok schoolgirls was for the Nigerian government to release one of the sect members with expertise in making Improvised Explosives Devices (IEDs).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the President stated this on Tuesday in Paris while responding to questions from members of the Nigerian community in France under the auspices of Nigerians in Diaspora Organization (NIDO).

Buhari however said his government would not accept such a demand.

“They wanted us to release one of their leaders who is a strategic person in developing and making Improvised IEDs that is causing a lot of havoc in the country by blowing people in Churches, Mosques, market places, motor parks and other places,” he said.

He reiterated the administration’s readiness to negotiate – on certain conditions – with the terrorists for the release of the schoolgirls abducted since April 2014.

“The issue of Chibok girls has occupied our minds and because of the international attention it drew and the sympathy throughout the country and the world. The government is (looking into possibility of) negotiating with some of the Boko Haram leadership,” the president said.

Buhari, however, stated that government must first establish genuine members of the sect so that it would not make the mistake of engaging the wrong persons.

“It is a very sensitive development in the sense that first we have to establish, are they genuine leaders of the Boko Haram. That is number one. Number two, what are their terms? the first impression we had was not very encouraging,’’ the president said.

He expressed his administration’s worries over the continued stay of the Chibok schoolgirls in the hands of their captors, saying he was working tirelessly to get them released.

Buhari noted that the unfortunate incident had attracted global attention and sympathy within and outside Nigeria and government could not fold its alms over the issue.

“But, it is very important that if we are going to talk to anybody, we have to know how much he is worth. Let them bring all the girls and then, we will be prepared to negotiate; I will allow them to come back to Nigeria or to be absorbed in the community.

We have to be very careful; the concern we have for the Chibok girls, one only imagines if they got a daughter there between 14 and 18 and for more than one and a half year, a lot of the parents who have died would rather see the graves of their daughters rather than the condition they imagine they are in.

This has drawn a lot of sympathy throughout the world; that is why this government is working very hard in negotiating and getting the balance of those who are alive,” he said.

Buhari assured the diasporans that his administration was doing everything possible to improve on the state of the economy through provision of infrastructure in critical sectors.

The president’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina had, in July, confirmed the willingness of government to engage the sect in negotiations if they were ready.

The Nigerian Army spokesman, Sani Usman, was quoted in the media as saying that members of the terror group were surrendering “en masse” and that the regional offensive was recording fruitful results against the militants.

Some Nigerians, who fielded questions during the interaction with President Buhari, requested to know what government was doing to guarantee the plight of the disabled.

Questions were also asked about the possibility of diaspora Nigerians to vote during elections.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) was established by the Federal Government of Nigeria in May 1976 to gather and distribute news on Nigeria and cover events of interest to Nigeria at the international level for the benefit of the Nigerian Media and the Public.

The situation in the north-east is so very heartbreaking. So sad to even think of the terrible things that have taken place there and continue to take place daily at the hands of these Boko Haram fanatical monsters and their evil financiers. I can’t imagine the trauma that these girls and countless other victims are going through. This sickening violence needs to end.

Buhari: Military Offensive against Boko Haram, Anti-north. The Sun Newspaper. June 3, 2013.

This President has never denied this statement which was widely reported and credited to him.

Well, it should end soon. Buhari is now President!!!!!! The thirst for power and the evil men will do to achieve it. He is the architect of Boko Haram. Chiboks girls and all evil in the North has Buhari’s DNA all over it.

“….Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) National Leader, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, has criticised the declaration of state of emergency in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe States and the subsequent military offensive against the Boko Haram Islamic sect.
Buhari, who featured on the “Guest of the Week,” a Hausa programme of the Kaduna-based Liberty Radio, yesterday said the federal government’s action was a gross injustice against the north…..

Yet Nigerians are looking all over for the evil that befell this nation when in actual fact, it is right there ruling the nation.

Buhari is President BUT he will live his last days here on earth in sorrow. His hand drip of blood.

thank you for reminding idiots that are praising this man. the blood of the innocent people are on their heads.is it that we are in denial or some of you are just stupid? why didn’t APC give us Fashola?our pain has nothing to do with GEJ,it has everything to do with the fact that this your president is the reason a lot of innocent people have died because of his thirst for power. i feel bad for the families that lost their loved ones; sons, brothers, fathers, mothers, uncles, nephews, nieces (soldiers).you let them die in vain. those northern leaders are all BH members.

Are you sure you are not living your life in sorrow? This whole epistle on someone living his life and trying to do what is best for the country.

He is the president, just deal with it, and wish him well. If he performs woefully, it will affect us as a nation, so i dont understand when people make these horrible comments.

You want him to respond to every news, so you can turn him to Jonathan? The way you all abused him (jonathan) when he responds to all criticisms.

Abeg, go and sit down somewhere and find something meaningful to do other than hate

Don’t know why buhari is running to America, Germany,Cameroon, France etc to extinguish the fire he fanned out of proportion? Pa Muhammadu Buhari was caught on VIDEO ordering his supporters to kill his political opponents supporters.
      The former dictator said to them;
“Go out there and protect your vote”,
“If anybody stands your way, stop him by lifting the spear”.
“And the crowd agreed with him by chanting, “Kill Them” “Kill them, kill them”.
11 Nigeria NYSC members were killed and roasted alive by Buhari’s support after he lost the 2011 President election.
500 Nigeria were killed in the stronghold of CPC Presidential candidate, Pa Buhari.

Forget about people who hate king harod, Pharoah, goliath,Judas iscariot and demons but sing buhari praise.
Buhari in his life time have benefited from northern violence than any other persona in Northern Nigeria. A man who can walk in sambisa barefooted without being hurt by BH.
Forget abt the staged bla bla bla in Kaduna, that was a wash.
He promised to crush the BH now he is planning to negotiate, reward them and enroll them back into Federal govt jobs as ghost workers with promotion and gratuity.

Chibok school girl story we shall all see the end. Oby’s assistant is now handsomely rewarded as a commissioner in Kaduna even as madam Oby patiently wait for hers for assisting to oust Jonathan.

@Omo Lekki, you are so uneducated. At least try and learn on this Blog since it is obvious your education is a waste. This ur poverty mentality is the reason you cannot think apart from worship Buhari. It is easy to chant Sai Buhari. But ask yourself, did Buhari really make that statement? He made it when he was still a contestant. It is not a light weight statement from a nobody like you. So, did he make it? And what does it really mean in the light of the current security challenges!

You come across more like omo waste. Poverty of the mind is a curse…. Learn to challenge the statuesquo and not be a yes FART!

And you are “a somebody”? lol.
Hiding behind the computer spewing rubbish! People like you are always quick to abuse, because that is your defence mechanism. Once you are boxed to a corner, you resort to abuse.
Make intellectual arguments, then we can actually believe you are sensible, and maybe we will make sense of what you are saying, not just calling someone an illiterate.

On top of that, this blood thirsty man is President. Mtscheeeeeeeeeeeeeew. In a sane country, nobody can make this type of treasonable weighty statement and be voted to rule the same country and we all pretend as if all is well.

Buhari made gej to make all the wrong calls,he was responsible for the gross looting under gej. Also, that was why the same boko haram sect wanted to have him killed around the election time.guy they have been in existence for decades and Buhari has no links whatsoever with them.do your findings properly..i have always advocated for finding the root causes of the menace and finding solutions as against the military approach because this is causing the whole wide world the mess….however that is defeated now because many lives have been wasted.stop throwing insults…

@Phoenix, pls go back to school. Evening lessons are FREE.

By the way, that bombing of Buhari is debatable. Did BH bomb to kill or was it stage managed for people who think like you? Stage manage his own bombing so we say he has nothing to do with BH. This Buhari eeeh, hnm, the blood of the innocent must be avenged o. You also have children remember.

They should agree, get back whatever is left of the chibok girls in exchange for the BH prisoner, BUT not before putting a tracker on him so they can trace and catch him back. There is this tracker that can be mixed with his food and ingested. And it cannot be passed, they really should speak with the usa about this. He may even lead them to the others BH members.

@honeyomolekki or whatever you call yourself, your life represents just that(sorrow). what has “hate” got to do with things that were openly said/done?must you always tag everything as hate?we can see you’re having something meaningful to do on bellanaija. you mean it’s ok destroy lives/property and pretend to be the hero God sent to deliver Nigeria?

what you are telling me is that it’s ok to let terrorists kill and go free without paying for their crimes?a man that has been against “attacking Boko haram from day 1 is doing his best for Nigeria? i think he should grant amnesty to all the convicted killers in Nigeria then.i mean, they deserve it too! all i know is that….any leader in Nigeria that feels he/she can destroy lives and get away with it has a special place in hell.
you people should fear God and say things the way they are in this country o.

U and ur brother smh are ignoramuses. tell us what that stupid jona did in his 6yrs as president; fuel scarcity, unbridled corruption, unemployment, irrational statements- “stealing is not corruption” etc are some of the “laudable” achievements you retards are proud of.
Jona was never an option to bring back. Am not saying Buhari is the best, even though his achievements this past 100 days(improved electricity, public declaration of assets, fuel availability) shows how corrupt and inept Jonas administration was. Like one of the writers rightfully said lets give Buhari his own 4yrs before judging him.

    • Seto

      September 16, 2015 at 4:12 pm

@Edu, Do not deviate from the issue. This is not about Jonathan idiot. APC people will not allow Jona to rest. Buhari is President today. He is the one we have business with.

It does not have to be this controversial Buhari or Jonathan you know. There are more God fearing candidates. But noooooo your greedy Tifnubu will not agree. Power by any means possible.

My prayer now is that God will grant my people the wisdom to think clearly, see clearly, ask good questions and make wise decisions towards nation building.
Whether we like it or not, the decisions we make today will continue to hunt us, even after we have departed from this world.

After all I have read so far and known about my dear country Nigeria. I hv come to conclusion that we should devolve power. Let us separate oh before it is too late.

    • FasholasLover

      September 16, 2015 at 1:35 pm

Hehehee separate before it is too late! I hear you. Isn’t it strange that those who scream the loudest about one Nigeria are southerners? You hardly hear Northerners shout one Nigeria. Us southerners are so desperate for this contraption called Nigeria to succeed more than our Northern country men. The North only remember we are one Naijeria as long as the oil is flowing. Southerners are not so free in the North. Meanwhile, Northerners even come to the south and take over. So tay, Fulani cattle rearer commandoes the road until his cattle are ready to clear for you to drive thru. I was home briefly three weeks ago and l just gave up. I almost missed my flight back to Lagos after a visit to friends outside Lagos as a herd of cows took their time majestically and delayed us all,

Yet, a cow master still manages to deceive some people about this Chibok girls. For some strange reason, nobody talks about all other missing girls etc. This Chibok saga will unravel someday.

    • ElessarisEllendil

      September 16, 2015 at 2:50 pm

Please tell me how you separation solves anything??? The Political class are the problem, change them and Nigeria will be better. Besides you people have been beating the “before its too late” drum for as long as I can remember, Nigeria can not exist without its component parts. Anybody telling you otherwise is deceiving you.

    • Nerve

      September 16, 2015 at 3:50 pm

EllesarisEllenda, l am calling you out. Pls. Tell me. How do you plan to remove the ruling class? Who are the members of this so called “ruling class”?

      THE YOUNG SHALL GROW:
“Watch what we do, the new generation don’t know any better.
OAU student union budget shows 1.8mill for presidents phone calls in 6 months, 1.2 mill for short term hotel and even security votes.”

If you were to say we are in dire need of reorientation, l will understand. But, this ur “take out the ruling class is ambiguous to say the least.

And oh by the way, that statement was also carried by other Nigerian Newspapers at the time. Talking of credibility, pls. Which Nigerian daily is more credible than the other?

The question still is, did President Buhari make that statement or NOT?

“Buhari however said his government would not accept such a demand.”

“Pres. Buhari: Boko Haram Agreed to Swap Chibok Girls with Arrested Bomb Expert”

I know the headline is technically correct, but most people won’t read the article.
