Bola O: Nerds Make Great Husbands

Published

 on

Is it really derogatory to call someone a nerd? I guess I will never wrap my mind around the reason for that. Supposedly, it is wrong to call someone a nerd, a geek or a bookie.

It connotes someone who is socially awkward never mind this is a term that is often used while people are still in school, whether it is high school or university – is that not the reason why there are there in the first place!

So I ask, why is it a negative to be a bookie? Checking through the dictionaries, there were several negative and downright nasty definitions which I choose to ignore – as you already know that I am attempting to defend nerds in this write up. However, there is one common theme that nerds are intelligent. They often have superior skills and are usually single focused. Perhaps it is this single focus that makes them lacking in other areas like social graces.

So with this as a backdrop, I have decided to write on three major points why nerds are good and should be appreciated and even sought after by women. Please note this list is very generic and not exhaustive. It will not be true in every situation out there; but for the most part, I believe it is representative of the majority of nerds.

Nerds often make great husbands
Trust me, I have been married to one for almost twenty years and it has been a great experience. Nerds aren’t party animals. They don’t go hanging out all night. They generally avoid social events and that makes for a good home. Those who marry social men know what I’m talking about. They are missing in action on the home front and would rather hang out with friends than spend time at home.

Nerds make good money
For the very reason that they are intelligent and studious, most nerds end up with excellent jobs and great salaries. That is always a good thing as there’s less financial related stress. Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook) was a nerd and many of his classmates laughed at him but he is surely having the last laugh. What’s more, he married his long time girlfriend, the one that saw the good in him before he became what he is today.

Last but not least: nerds are good role models for children
You can’t give what you don’t have. Children emulate what they see. You can’t be a dead beat and expect greatness from your kids. If they see good character in the adults around them they are more likely to turn out the same way.

Moral of the lesson: don’t make permanent decisions based on a temporary situation. He may look like a geek today but what does it take to changes those “pants that are fighting with the ground”, or to change the funny shoes. Have you ever heard of a makeover? Don’t say no to a guy with a bright future because he “does not know how to dress” that is being short sighted.

Does he have integrity? Does he have good work ethics? Is he God fearing? Those are things that you can’t change and they are more important than the clothes or shoes he is wearing today.

To the single ladies, please shine your eyes!
