Barbie Got A Body Makeover! She Now Comes in 7 Skin Tones, 4 Body Types & 22 Hairstyles

Just when we though the Barbie dolls couldn’t get cooler.

In a new step towards celebrating diversity of the female form, Mattel (makers of Barbie) have unveiled their 2016 Barbie Fashionistas line – and it’s like something you’ve never seen before. The brand released a line that offers a diverse array of looks, including 7 different skin tones, 4 different body types, and 22 different hairstyles.

The dolls, set to be released at different points throughout the year, will come in petite, tall and curvy body types. How amazing is that?

Speaking on why the chose this direction for their brand, Tania Missad of Mattel says – “We have to let girls know it doesn’t matter what shape you come in, that anything is possible.“

This move comes after the huge success of director, Ava DuVernay‘s special edition Barbie and the introduction of movable ankles for the doll.

Barbie has been the subject for a lot of criticism in the past for their lack of diversity – we guess this takes care of that.
