Tale AlimiJanuary is the month where people around the world make their New Year resolutions. These resolutions range from things to achieve, or habits to develop or stop. Statistics show that just 8% of people achieve their resolution. This shows that talk is cheap, indeed. I believe that a couple of factors differentiate those that achieve their resolutions from those that don’t; and one of such factors is the reason and strength of their decision. I decided to share 7 things you should do this year to make a remarkable difference by the end of the year.

Discover and harness Your Passion
Find what you are truly passionate about and do something about it. A lot of people work jobs that they might be good at, but are not truly passionate about. So this is the year to begin to explore your passion and do something about it. You can take my free passion quiz here to start you off on this path.

Expand Your Earning ability
Like the popular song by Jaywon ‘we are making money this year’, if you want to make more money then you need to expand your earning ability. This could mean upgrading your skill or upgrading your network since it is said that your network determines your net worth.

Learn Something New
There is so much opportunity out there, but we seem to have limited opportunities because we do not expand our possibilities. One of the ways to expand your possibilities is to learn something new. If you learn a new language, for example, you would expand the number of people you can communicate with, with these newly acquired language skills. I have a friend who got a managerial job as the head of her company in another country because she was proficient in speaking their language.

Set a BHAG and Achieve It
A BHAG is a Big Hairy Audacious Goal. I wrote an article about BHAG’s sometime last year {read it here}. If you like to stay in your comfort zone, BHAGs are things you avoid and you are content with doing just the required to get by. However, if you want to achieve real growth, it would come from stretching yourself. Why don’t you challenge yourself this year and set not just a regular goal, but a BHAG?

Go Somewhere New
One of my favorite sayings which I heard from TD Jakes is ‘exposure gives you options’. A lot of times in life, you don’t know what you don’t know until you are exposed to something new. Make it your goal this year to go somewhere new. It could be a new country, city or just a new place within your current city that you have never been. You would be surprised at what exposure would do for you.

Make an Important Decision
We make decisions every day: from what we would eat, what we would wear and what we would do. However, the decisions that bring significant changes are not your everyday routine decisions. Decisions like what direction your career or business would go, what relationships you would end or cultivate are very important decisions to shape your life. Those decisions require courage and have to be well thought out. So make an important life changing decision this year and your life would go in a different trajectory.

Develop a Powerful Habit
We are creatures of habit and what we repeatedly do becomes a habit. If you want to change something in your life, you can do this by forming a new habit. For example, if you want to start a side business this year, deciding to wake up an hour earlier or sleep an hour later so you can work on your business is a powerful habit that would guarantee significant progress.

As you decide which of these things you would do this year, I have a special challenge for you in a new video. Watch it here.
