The just concluded South African Menswear Week had a couple of Nigerian design talents, such as; Orange Culture, Maxivive, Kola Kuddus and Tokyo James take part in the fashion spectacle to the applause of critics and show goers.

Of which on a cursory look though, one would assume that their collections were born out of a series of the same dream, with striking likeness (as in the case of Orange Culture and Tokyo James’ slouchy long-line crochet sweaters and borderline dystopian slash ragtag aesthetic employed in their respective AW16 collections ), they each however, brought their unique quirks to focus at the core of it all (with Orange Culture keeping up with his colourful disposition and Tokyo staying loyal to his affinity with block and neutral tones), as was in the case of Kola Kuddus, who continues to push the envelop on traditional Nigerian attire with just the right dash of innovativeness as seen here with his use of drapes and skirts—sharing in that same innovativeness is Maxivive, a fashion provocateur in his right—exploring the complex line that stands between active wear and luxury, he brings his clearest interpretation yet, with this being his most cohesive collection so far.

Together these designers are gradually redefining the new Nigerian man’s taste, sensibilities and style (which looks like something right off Kanye‘s—and in some cases—Jean Paul Gaultier’s style scrapbooks), and with the breaking of every morning, Lagos’ men are beginning to look so much like the models they dress on their catwalks with such striking semblance and likeness that can only be attributed to their ingenuity.

Below are 3 of our best pieces from each of their collections for your viewing pleasure!
