Nigerian in US Arrested over Identity Fraud and Possible Terrorist Ties

The US feds have adopted and taken over the case of identification fraud involving a Nigerian man, Uchenna Azubuike, 29 charged with 13 counts identification fraud in Thomasville. The feds adopted the case over suspicions of ties with terrorist activities.

Moultrie Observer broke the news on their website a couple of days ago.

According to the news site, Uchenna Azubuike was arrested while trying to flee in his 2010 Infiniti vehicle, from the Thomasville Verizon store. Unknown to him, employees at this store have been on high alert after a New Jersey woman’s identification was used to purchase phones in the store in late February. So after he (Azubuike) entered the store to purchase two iPhones worth $1,700, police was notified.

Speaking on the arrest, Detective Scott Newberry said the accused refused to identify himself and had to be taken in and transported to jail where his identity was learned through fingerprints.

Twelve more passports, two iPhones, an iPad, and other documents related to identity fraud were found in the car after search at the Jail-Justice impound yard.

Capt. Maurice Holmes commander of the Thomasville Police Department Criminal Investigations Division revealed that he is of “Nigerian descent” and has a “long history” of fraudulent activity with a Nigerian connection. He also revealed suspicion of terrorist ties.

According to reports, the suspect will remain remanded in Thomasville until he is indicted by a federal grand jury. Then he will then be transported a federal facility.
