President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday evening left the country for a working visit to the People’s Republic of China to secure greater support from the economic giant for the development of the nation’s infrastructure, especially in the areas of power, roads, railway, aviation, solid minerals and water.

The president will also hold talks with President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Keqiang and the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National Peoples’ Congress, Zhang Dejiang to strengthen bilateral cooperation so as to actualise the Federal Government’s agenda for the diversification of the Nigerian economy.

It is expected that during the course of the visit, several new agreements and Memorandums of Understanding will be signed by both nations.

According to Channels TV,

The agreements include a Framework Agreement between the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment and the National Development and Reform Commission of the Peoples’ Republic of China to Boost Industrial Activities and Infrastructural Development in Nigeria.

Others are a Framework Agreement between the Federal Ministry of Communications and the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, and a Memorandum of Understanding between Nigeria and China on Scientific and Technological Cooperation.

The President and his entourage, which includes some state governors and Ministers of Transportation; Power, Works and Housing; Defence; Agriculture; Water Resources; Industry, Trade and Investment; Federal Capital Territory; Science and Technology; and Foreign affairs, will also tour the Shanghai Free Trade Zone and the Guangzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone to gain more useful insights and understanding of the policies that underpinned China’s astronomical economic growth in recent years.

The President will also open a China-Nigeria Business/Investment Forum in Beijing as well as meet with the Nigerian Community in China before his return.
