Domestic violence in Nigeria is once again a hot topic after the tragic death of Ronke Shonde.

Channels TV interviewed a victim of domestic violence named Esther in Lagos. She got pregnant at 18 due in part to a hostile home environment caused by her step father. After the birth of her child, the father of her child began abusing and beating her.

He raped her when her first child was barely days old and she was still healing from the birth. She was not even allowed to sit on the chairs or lie down on the bed and he denied her basic needs by locking up vital items in the house while he went to work.
She went on to have 2 more children and 3 abortions before she eventually left the relationship after 7 years.
