Good afternoon, Aunty Bella,

Please I am in a confused state regarding planning my career-life. I’m a student who attends a Nigerian university. I am in my third year, and I have never gone on industrial training which isn’t compulsory in my own department in school. But growing up my older folks went on industrial training. They were usually like one must have work experience in his/her C.V which will be of help to the person when search for job after school.

But right now, I have learnt so many entrepreneurship skills… like five: bag making, cloth designing and many other skills. Since this is the last holiday I will have before final year, I want to make myself perfect in sewing clothes and the bags, so that I will be able to network, and grow in this area. Sewing for 4 months straight will really make a good difference. Coupled with the fact that few weeks back, someone I met only said she would assist me in teaching me how to design well for free – even though she is far away. I still told her I would be able to make it.

My second issue is that if I go on Industrial Training, I may be able to generate money to get a good electric/industrial sewing machine that I’d use to sew leather for bags and clothes. The problem is that I will not really have time to be creative due to the fact that school will resume immediately after my industrial training. The machine will just stay put at home till I graduate.

Please everyone kindly advice me whether I should go on industrial training and get money for sewing machine. Alternatively, maybe I should work on my skills, attend the free training, and keep looking for other ways to acquire the machine. What is the effect of going or not going on industrial training in the future?
