A man arrested at Donald Trump‘s Rally in Las Vegas told authorities that he tried to grab a police officer’s gun and use it to kill the Republican presidential candidate, BBC reports.

According to a complaint filed in the US District Court in Nevada on Monday, Michael Sandford tried to disarm the officer at the June 18th rally in Mystere Theatre, Treasure Island Casino before being overpowered.

The young man, who holds a British driving License said he had driven from California to “Kill Trump”, and had been to a range the previous day to learn how to shoot. At his trial he did not enter a plea when he appeared before a judge and has been remanded in custody until another hearing on July 5th.

“Sandford acknowledged that he would likely only be able to fire one to two rounds and stated he was convinced he would be killed by law enforcement during his attempt on Trump’s life,” the complaint said.

He has been charged with an act of violence “on restricted grounds” and he confessed to plotting a plan to shoot Trump for about a year but had decided to act now because he finally felt confident enough to do so.
