University of Ilorin’s (Unilorin) Head of English Department, Dr. Mohamed Sani Idiagbon has resigned following the release of an audio clip of him allegedly sexually harassing one of his students.

According to SaharaReporters, the victim, identified only as “Faith” by the Students’ Union President is a 200 level student of the department, had gone to the perpetrator’s office concerning a Continuous Assessment test she had missed.

The University’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Kunle Akogun, confirmed Idiagbon’s resignation after he had been suspended and removed as the head of the English department, saying that he (Idiagbon) refused to honor an invitation of the Staff Disciplinary Committee before he chose to resign.

He also said that the university is investigating the matter and will ensure that the lecturer is duly punished if found guilty of the allegations against him.

“The university frowns against sexual harassment or any other harassment at that. The university is making necessary investigation and once we are done, the culprit will be brought to book,” he said.

Listen to the clip below:

She says “I don’t like it” after he touches her and tells her to bring something out for him to suck. Then he tells her “you are fake” and sends her to lock the door after she says she doesn’t feel comfortable (she also says she’s on her period).

In the video he says, “you are not the only one”, and she replies “I know I’m not special”. Then after she doesn’t agree to doing things, he tells her to leave the office and not to call him again.

This is coming after the Senate passed a bill for second reading that prescribes five year jail term for randy lecturers. The bill also proposed a two year jail term for vice chancellors of universities, rectors of polytechnics and other chief executives of institutions of higher learning if they fail to act within a week on complaints of sexual harassment made by students.
