Kano Film VillageThe $10 million (N3.76 billion using current black market rate) film village project has been cancelled by the Federal government following  social media outcry and opposition from Muslim clerics, BBC reports.

The promoter of the project Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin representing Bebeji/Kiru Federal Constituency had earlier said that the 20-hectare centre would be equipped with state-of-art facilities and equipment for film-making.

It was part of the government’s efforts to improve the Hausa language film industry known as Kannywood.

Reports say Muslims clerics argued that the project would promote immorality.

According to BBC, an aide to President Muhammadu Buhari said that the president has listened to the people’s concerns.
