An Aba-based couple are at the centre of a gruesome domestic violence case. Mr Nwachukwu allegedly cut off his wife’s hand during an argument over infidelity on Monday.

An anonymous neighbour told Vanguard Newspaper,

“The couple had always quarrelled any time the man visited his wife in the city, to the extent that all the tenants are aware and intervened in their quarrels.”

According to reports, the accused and his wife had lived together in Aba until he lost his job and was forced to relocate to the village.

Since then, during his visits to the city, the couple spent most of their time arguing.

On Monday, he brought out a machete and severed his wife’s hand. It is being speculated that his intention was to kill her but he missed his target and cut off her hand as she tried to defend herself. He had accused her of infidelity.

She was rushed to the hospital by concerned neighbours.

Area Commander, Aba Police Command, Peter Wabara, in a response to a text message to Vanguard Newspaper, said the incident was yet to be reported to him. However, a police officer at Ogbor Hill Police Station, confirmed the incident and said investigation into the matter had commenced.

The victim is currently admitted in a hospital in Aba. There are conflicting reports on the status of her severed hand. It is being reported that her severed hand has been taken to her husband’s village for burial.
