Mariah Carey is Complex Magazine’s Cover Girl

Mariah Carey looks incredible on the cover of the latest issue of Complex magazine.

In the magazine she talks about her career, family and love. She also talks about her E! docuseries “Mariah’s World.”

On her kids and marriage to Nick Cannon: “I never thought I would have babies with someone and then get divorced. Like, ‘Oh, great job. Repeat your past.’ But life happens. And it was supposed to happen. It’s fine. For them, I wish it hadn’t happened that way. For me, it was…[singing Johnny Mathis and Deniece Williams’ “Too Much, Too Little, Too Late”] Guess it’s over. Call it a day.”

On her new fiance, James Packer: ““I don’t expect him to be at every little thing that I do, and vice versa,” she says. “He’s got a lot of stuff on his plate and so do I.”  She confirms he is a fan of her music and her “Hero” duet with Luciano Pavarotti is currently his favorite. She says the fact that he was a fan didn’t scare her off.  “Actually, I think if he didn’t like my music then how would I be able to handle him being around when all I’m doing is creating new stuff, doing whatever?” she muses. “It’s cool.”

On Michael Jackson: “If Michael Jackson were alive he could sing, I can’t feel my face when I’m with you. He could sing any of those songs. And sometimes it reminds, ‘Oh, I wish that Michael would’ve had a song like this,’ because I loved when he did you give me butterflies and stuff like that. They would always hate on that at Sony because they wanted him to do these big pop records.”

On Prince:  “Aside from his genius, his artistry, he actually helped me through a lot of [business] situations with his knowledge. He always had a plan. He was ahead of everybody on the whole Internet thing. Ahead of everybody with putting his music on the Internet. He didn’t care about the big system and I was always like, in the back of my mind, at any time Prince could write a No. 1 song because he’s that talented but he chooses to do what he wants. I respect that.”

On owning Marilyn Monroe’s white piano: “That was the only thing that she had from her childhood. I haven’t touched it, I haven’t changed it, I won’t even tune it because it’s from 1937,” Carey says. “I could’ve bought the dress, the [sings] Mr. President dress, and then I was like, ‘No.’ Because I don’t care about the dress. I’d rather maintain what she cared about.”
