The Osun state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Sunday condemned the arrest of former deputy governor of the state, Senator Iyiola Omisore by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Omisore was arrested at his residence in Abuja on Sunday.

Diran Odeyemi, PDP spokesman in Osun tate, speaking to PREMIUM TIMES on Sunday evening, said Omisore had a valid court injunction restraining the EFCC from arresting him.

“There’s a court injunction by senator Omisore against the EFCC not to be arrested,” he said. “We’re never aware that that judgment has been vacated especially on Sunday. It’s very unfortunate that the EFCC is carrying out its assignment in a way that suggests its persecuting the opposition.

Today is Sunday, by tomorrow, everything will be clearer and we’ll have to go to court to enforce his fundamental human right,” he said.

The EFCC had last month in a statement by the Head, Media and Publicity, Wilson Uwujaren, declared Omisore wanted in connection with a case of receiving and misappropriating the sum of over N700 million from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) between June and November, 2014 under Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd). Click here if you missed it.
