A couple of days ago, an official of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Segun Enikuemehin, was allegedly stabbed in the eye by soldiers who were beating up a civilian.

Segun, on his way from work had gone to meet the soldiers to ask them what the person had done to warrant such brutalisation, and one of them said he wore military camouflage some weeks before that time and they had asked him to bring it to them. The soldier said the person refused, and they were just seeing him that day.

Observing that the soldiers would have beaten the person to death, the dragged him out of their hands and took him to the police station.

He said some policemen accompanied him to the scene after he reported the case at the Adekunle Police station at Ebute Metta. He added that the soldiers had already regrouped at a nearby beer parlour, numbering about 19, and that was when they pushed a policeman aside and beat him up mercilessly, stabbing him with an object in the eye.

Reports revealed that the damaged eye was reportedly picked from the ground and Segun was rushed down to the General Hospital.  Rejected upon arrival by that hospital, he was then taken to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH).

Meanwhile, the soldiers, upon realizing what they had done, were said to have taken to their heels but were overtaken by residents and handed over to the police.

Segun is calling on the government and the FRSC authorities to intervene in the issue and ensure that justice is served.

His uncle, Ojatunwase Oluwajoba, had also said that the soldier who allegedly carried out the attack had been released to the military, and a military officer, who he identified as Captain Okolo had told him that until a soldier who was allegedly stabbed by the resident recovers, they will not look into Segun’s case.
