2 Extra Gold Medals & 1 Bronze! Innocent Nnamdi, Onye Lauritta & Ndidi Nwosu Add to Nigeria’s Medals at #Rio2016 #Paralympics

Nigeria’s Ndidi Nwosu has won the country’s 5th gold in the women’s -73kg in the powerlifting event at the ongoing Rio 2016 Paralympics.

Nwosu who weighs 71.1kg, claimed the gold with a lift of 140kg.

Onye Lauritta also handed team Nigeria it’s first medal in the athletes event, clinching gold in the women’s shot put f40 on day-four of the #Rio2016 #Paralympics.

Her first throw of 7.83m broke the world record of 7.72m. Her second and third throws were 7.54m and 7.64m respectively.

She clinched the gold medal with an astonishing throw of 8.4m in her fourth attempt.

Innocent Nnamdi on Sunday, also won Bronze in the men’s -72kg class in the Powerlifting event with a lift of 210kg.

China’s Lei Liu took Gold with a lift of 221kg, smashing the Paralympic Record and World Record, while Iraq’s Rasool Mohsin clinched Silver with a lift of 220kg.

Team Nigeria’s medal in the Games has increased to eight, following Latifat Tijani‘s Silver, Roland Ezuruike‘s Gold, Paul Kehinde‘s Gold, and Oyema Esther‘s Silver in their respective events.

The country is now number 9 on the medal rankings table.
