Former Kogi State governor, Late Abubakar Audu‘s son, Mohammed, has been arrested alongside 15 other members of the family.

They were arrested on Wednesday by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) for reasons yet unknown.

The Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Abdullahi Ibrahim, told PREMIUM TIMES that they are ‘still investigating’ the matter.

It’s after investigation that we will tell you. What I know is that they were reported and we acted,” he said.

Asked when the arrested persons would be charged to court, he said: ‘When we complete investigation’.

PREMIUM TIMES reports that the arrest may not be unconnected to the physical attack on late Audu’s younger brother, Yahaya Audu, who received a posthumous award on behalf of the deceased during the #KogiAt25 celebration.

He was reportedly attacked by the deceased’s children who had openly condemned the administration of the current governor, Yahaya Bello.

A day after the anniversary ceremony, Mohammed, late Audu’s eldest son, in a statement on behalf of the family, mocked the governor and said he should have used resources meant for the ceremony to pay workers.

Audu’s other son, Mustapha on Wednesday alleged that Gov. Bello ‘ordered’ the arrest of his brother and family members.

The governor has since denied the allegations.
