Following the outrage that came after the demolition of structures in Lagos state two days ago, the Lagos State government has responded by saying that the landlords and the tenants of the buildings have been served contravention and quit order since March.

The Lagos state commissioner of Information and Strategy, Steve Ayorinde made this known in a series of tweets on Friday evening.

“The demolished building on Rumens Road, Ikoyi was properly served contravention and quit order since March. Both the landlord and tenants.

No structure would have been demolished if it didn’t contravene physical planning laws. Sympathies are Okay, but Lagos State Government will enforce its laws.

Adequate notices were given with documentary evidence. The public deserves to be informed about the law against unapproved structures.

The demolition of certain structures by the Lagos State Ministry of Physical Planning was carried out because the buildings had no permit,” Ayorinde Tweeted.
