In the past couple of minutes, reports have been making the rounds on social media that General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor E.A Adeboye has resigned from his position.

Here is the statement which was shared by Stealth Scouts. A PR company affiliated with the G.O;

PASTOR E. A. ADEBOYE steps down as the Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God Nigeria.

Pastor E.A. Adeboye fondly called Daddy G.O. announces that he will be stepping down as the Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God.

It was with great shock that the congregation of all RCCG Pastors and ministers received the announcement of the General Overseer of Pastor E.A. Adeboye that he will no longer be general overseer. He immediately announced the new Overseer as Pastor J.O Obayemi, Pastor J.F Odesola as Secretary and Pastor J.A. Adeyokunnu as the new Treasurer.

The announcement was made during the church’s annual thanksgiving held at the 3km by 3km new auditorium today 7th January 2017.

He requested that the congregants pray for the new leadership after which he also pronounced blessings upon them.

Also present at the meeting was the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Prof Yemi Osibajo and other Senior Pastors of the Church.

Indeed the focal word for this year remains “SURPRISE” or how else do you describe this?

Pastor J.O Obayemi has been appointed as the Overseer for Nigeria, an office Adeboye said Obayemi has been functioning in for some time.

Adeboye said that he remains the General Overseer of RCCG Worldwide.

Adeboye also announced the appointment of Pastor J.F Odesola at the new Secretary and Pastor J.A Adeyokunnu as the new Treasurer.

One of the ministers at the Ministers Thanksgiving where Adeboye made the announcement told BellaNaija that Adeboye said the decision was as a result of a new law that General Overseers are to spend a certain number of years, after which they are to retire.

Adeboye, however, did not mention the law, or the number of years a General Overseer is meant to spend.

The said law is yet to be confirmed as at the time of filing this report.

Adeboye, who was ordained the head of the church in 1981, said that outside the shores of Nigeria, he (Adeboye) remains the General Overseer.

The RCCG structure is made up of a Governing Council which Adeboye is the chairman, then the General Overseer, Deputy General Overseer, Assistant General Overseers, several Special Assistants to the General Overseer (in charge of various departments, regions, countries).

Others are Pastors in Charge of Regions, Pastors in Charge of Provinces, Pastors in Charge of Zones, Pastors in Charge of Areas, and Pastors in Charge of parishes.

Prior to his latest appointment, Obayemi was a Special Assistant to the G.O (Finance)/Pastor in Charge of Region 2 of the church.
