The Paris Haute Couture shows, which ended in the last week of January, had creative directors of the biggest design houses show some of the most amazing pieces.

Though the shows happened during the time of the protests, it did not stop the designers from delivering a heavy dose of glamorous gowns and dresses fit for any occasion or red carpet.

Some notable trends, such as lavish embroidery (at Elie Saab and Zuhair Murad), deconstruction (at Margiela and Viktor & Rolf) or even the off-shoulder trend (at Valentino), were talking points. Will the trends at the couture shows influence the ready-to-wear shows, which kicks off fashion month today in New York?

Below are some of the most interesting looks from Paris couture.
