Bayelsa Police has arrested one Keke Ziworitin, 59, who mistakenly mistakenly cut off his step-grandson’s genital during circumcision.

The incident occurred in the coastal community of Ondewari in the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa state.

Keke, who has been performing circumcision for years according to residents of the community, had told the victim’s mother to bring her son for circumcision.

According to Vanguard, the State’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Asinim Butswat, said that Keke is in custodian and investigations is ongoing.

“We arrested the suspect following a report of the circumcision incident; he is currently in our custody. He was arrested on Saturday and hopefully, subject to the outcome of the investigation, prosecution will follow,” Butswat said.

Meanwhile, the victim’s mother, Eudora Michael, 35, who spoke at the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, where the child is on admission, is crying for help as they no longer have money to pay hospital bills.

She said he was at risk and needs the assistance of the Bayelsa State government and well-meaning Nigerians.

“Since this sad incident occurred, we have been running around to raise money; we have borrowed and are in big debt. My husband has gone to the village to gather money, but people are not forthcoming with help.

People who had given us loans are not willing to give us more, when we have not paid what we borrowed. We are even surviving at the mercy of doctors, who are spending their own money when they see that we are unable to provide the drugs they prescribe,” she said.
