Nkechi Alade: Womenpreneurs! Cheers to Our Amazing Selves

By the time you are reading this, the International Women’s Day would have passed, but you will still read it anyway… so Happy International Women’s Day in arrears.

Being a mother, daughter, wife, sister, friend and many other things at the same time may be a strenuous job for an individual don’t you think?

How about adding a dash of 9-5 (Where you obviously have to leave the house before 5am in order to beat the Lekki Traffic) and ultimately entrepreneurship (Where you have to stay awake all night working on your business plans, finance forecast etc)! Did I hear you say more stressful? You are so right!

Nowadays, we get to see the likes of Tara Fela Durotoye, Mosunmola Umoru etc and we go awwwww because all we can see is the glitz and glamour that come with being successful female entrepreneurs. Many of us do not know the background work and the years it took to build their existing empires.

This post is dedicated to three sets of people:

The “already made” entrepreneurs
We congratulate all female entrepreneurs who are on top of their games and are turning things around in whatever sector of the economy they are servicing. Believe us, we know getting here was not easy; we can only imagine the sweat and blood you put into your business to make it what it is today.
Thank you for your contributions to our society and may your oil will never run dry!

The “on the way” entrepreneurs
We know you may not believe this, but we see and notice your activities. We see how you keep at it every blessed day to ensure that your business succeeds while you keep adding value to the economy at large.
On this day, we would like to encourage and tell you that no matter how much you feel like giving up DON’T DO IT, if you know in your guts that what you are doing is your calling.
Be consistent, do the right things and always thirst for more knowledge in your field of work. VERY SOON, we repeat VERY SOON, it will all come to LIGHT.

The “I don’t know how to start” entrepreneurs
Many of us are in this category! We seldom have the faintest idea of how to start that business, but we know we have to.

The best thing to do at this point is sit down and have a deep and insightful meeting with YOU. Am I ready for this? Do I have all it takes? How do I source for funds? Am I ready to sweat it all out? Am I ready for failure and disappointments at the first try?

Am I ready to go through the learning process? These and many others are the questions you should ask yourself. Once you are able to answer them and more, you are on track! How to start may not come to you crystal clear or in a flash, but you know what? Go the Nike way and JUST DO IT!
