In light of the recent attacks on families by cultists known as Badoo, the Lagos State Police Command has issued a press statement asking residents to always carry with them a form of identification.

The police said that it is important for residents to carry valid IDs because of a series of police operations that have been lined up in the area.

The statement, signed by Lagos Police spokesperson ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole, read:

ATTENTION TO IKORODU RESIDENTS

The Lagos state police command would like to inform members of the public especially residents in ikorodu and environs, that from henceforth everybody moving around that part of the state, residents, students or workers should always have on them a valid form of identification.

This has become important and necessary because of the series of police operations lined up in the area by the Lagos state police command led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of operations.

The Lagos state police command is deeply concerned about the criminal activities in the area which is not only unlawful but also affecting the integrity of the state.

The planned police operations demands residents to carry on them a valid form of identification which will be verified, in order not to be restricted or face apprehension as adequate security arrangements have been put in place for the safety of every Nigerian throughout the state by the police and other security agencies.

This order takes immediate effect from the 4th of July 2017.

The cult known as Badoo has been carrying out their activities in the Ikorodu area of the state, raiding homes at night and killing entire families.
It is said that they carry with them large stones and pestles, with which they pound different body parts of the victims, and handkerchiefs with which they carry the pounded bits with them.
The gang has also raided churches and it is believed that offshoots have sprouted, after news broke that people pay N500,000 each for a handkerchief full of grounded body parts.
There have also been counter-attacks by residents on persons suspected to be members of the gang.
