It’s the dispensation of taking African stories to the world, and who better to do that than Africans themselves?

Well, Mo Abudu has announced that EbonyLife Films has obtained the rights to make Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka‘s play “Death and a King’s Horseman” into a feature film.

Abudu shared the news on her Instagram, writing:

Happy Sunday beautiful people. Lunch with Prof today at Scotts in London. It’s always lovely to see Prof. Thank you so much for always making the time out of your busy schedule to meet with me. I truly appreciate it. Work and planning continues with EbonyLife Film’s development of our forthcoming feature film – Death and the King’s Horseman – Yes beautiful people. EbonyLife Films has acquired the rights to make this incredible work into a feature film for global distribution. We will continue to change the narrative and tell our stories. Lord we thank you for all these incredible opportunities you give us.

Death and a King’s Horseman is based on a real incident that took place during colonial rule in Nigeria.

It features the story of a king’s horseman who was prevented by colonial authorities from killing himself as was the custom for horsemen when a king dies.
