“Adire Meets Modernity” – View the Ade Bakare Spring/Summer 2014 Collection
Presenting the 2014 collection by London-based Nigerian designer Ade Bakare titled “Adire Meets Modernity“
The collection, which is based solely on the Nigerian textile – adire {tie & dye in Yoruba} – became a source of inspiration for Ade due to his constant travels to Nigeria. Ade said, “I became interested in this rare textile and was intrigued the way it was made, However I felt it could be made in more luxurious fabrics which would endear it to more people and international appeal”. He worked with various adire manufacturers and brought a lot silks from his London, England design studio for them to work with. The result is the new collection for summer 2014 titled “Adire meets Modernity”.
With recognition for his evening wear line, his bridal line & couture perfume “Breeze”, Ade created a collection that is more structured, retaining the elements of the adire with a touch of evening glamour. The collection features puff sleeves, embellished blouses sparked with crystals, sashes, flounces and bows in silks such as gazar and organza.
