DJ Jimmy Jatt’s Album tops iTunes Nigeria Music Chart
Abuja (NAN) – Veteran Nigerian Disc Jockey (DJ) Jimmy Amu, popularly called Jimmy Jatt has attained great success. His second album, entitled ‘The Industry,’ has topped the iTunes Nigeria music chart.
The album, which features more than 40 artistes, including D’banj, 2face Idibia, Banky W, Ice Prince,Vector, Olamide, Waje, Skales, Zaina and Phyno, contains 26 tracks.
Less than a week after its release, ‘The Industry’ displaced fellow veteran Tuface Idibia’s new album, ‘The Ascension’, which had been number one since its release on July 26.
His first single, entitled ‘Stylee’, featured Tuface Idibia, Mode 9 and Elajoe .
It also received huge success with massive radio and television air play.
Jatt, who recently celebrated 25 years anniversary as a DJ, is regarded as one of the pioneers of Nigerian hip hop music.
He began his career by collecting rap albums from the 70s and 80s as he developed a strong interest in hip hop.
During his childhood, he was exposed to blues, soul, jazz, funk, RnB, hip hop along with other indigenous genres like juju, apala, fuji and highlife, giving him an eclectic flair for music.
He started the Road Block Street carnival in Nigeria which was a forum for hip hop artistes to be groomed, whilst engaging in lyrical battles.
Jatt has performed on the stage with American singers, including Usher Raymond, Shaggy, Eve, K-C1 and Jojo, Naughty by Nature, Carog Wheeler, Magic System and David Hyden, Sean Paul, and a host of others.
He is also the official DJ for the ‘Play Safe’ national campus tour in Nigeria, poised at warring against unprotected sex.
Beyond the shores of Nigeria, Jatt has also spun his wheels across Africa in countries such as Benin Republic, Cote D’Ivoire, Togo, South Africa and some European countries and the U.S.A.
Some of his songs include “Thank you Mr DJ,” “Jump Off,’” “Spin” and “Glasses Up.”
