Darkoo and Asake in the same room? Yes please. The British-Nigerian artist has released her new single “That Girl” featuring Afrobeats heavyweight Asake, and the official music video is already out and making its rounds for very good reason.
“That Girl” is a feel-good Afrobeats record that brings together two Nigerian-rooted artists whose careers have taken very different paths to the same stage. Darkoo reveals that the song was actually written nearly a year ago with someone entirely different in mind, before Asake eventually came on bo
ard. “I’ve always believed timing is everything,” she said. “With music and with God, if you put the two together, you’ll go far.” That patience clearly paid off. The record is smooth, sweet, and built for warm evenings and good company, with Darkoo’s husky delivery carrying the track’s celebratory, confidence-forward theme while Asake slides in with the melodic flow his audience has come to expect. The song is being described as a feel-good hit that helps women tap into unstoppable confidence, and from first listen, that framing makes complete sense.
The official music video, directed by Perliks, matches the record’s vibrant and lively atmosphere, and has already been described by music reviewers as a strong contender for song-of-the-summer rotation.
For anyone still getting to know the UK-based British-Nigerian rapper and singer (real name Tife Kehinde), Darkoo first broke out in 2019 with her hit single “Gangsta” featuring One Acen—later tapping Tiwa Savage for a high-profile remix. Following her 2025 project $exy Girl $ummer (Vol. 1)—which delivered hits like “Favourite Girl” and “Focus On Me“—she has kept her momentum going through 2026 with heavyweight collaborations, including “Right Now” with Davido and Rvssian, and now “That Girl” with Asake.
“That Girl” is out now on all streaming platforms. Watch the official video below.
